I live in a community that is a bit isolated.  We are a 4-hour drive to the nearest large city.  So being able to network with professionals through the National Writing Project has been an incredible experience for me.  I attended a summer institute and was amazed at what support there was out there through NWP for those of us who teach writing and nurture budding writers.  NWP revitalized my interest in teaching writing and what I brought back to my students really set off sparks in their own writing.  Being associated with the National Writing Project has been one of the great highlights of my career.  It has opened up a world of incredible resources and people to me who nurture me, both as a writer and as a professional educator.   I hope NWP will continue, because this is truly one of the bright spots in education today.  The National Writing Project is keeping alive the love and power of writing and communication.  This is fundamental to an intelligent, democratic society.
